Material Culture with Material Connexion and Realizing the D-Block Material Library

The seminar "Material Culture with Material Connexion and Realizing the D-Block Material Library", organized by "The Material Library Commission" was held on the 3rd of May, 2013 in the 2nd year Design Studio of the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (IAED) Department with the participation of 2nd year Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Industrial Design (ID) students and lecturers of the IAED and ID Departments.

The seminar began with the opening speech of Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Head of IAED Department and continued with the introductory presentation made by Res. Asst. Selin Gulden from IAED Department about the D-Block Material Library, the collected materials and catalogues, and its design process. The Material Library is designed and developed by Res. Asst. Selin Gulden and Res. Asst. Ayça Durmaz with the help of student assistants, Can Başdoğan, Gökhan Keskin and Seray Özbiçer from IAED Department under the supervision of Hasırcı from IAED Department and Prof. Dr. Murat Bengisu from ID Department.

The guest speaker of the seminar, a materials engineer, Burak Haskan from Material Connexion talked about the importance of materials in design and their nature. He also gave detailed information about some new and innovative materials and showed their samples to the participants who were fascinated by this fruitful seminar. After the seminar, Haskan also stayed to give some critiques on the projects of the 2^nd year Design Studio course students of IAED Department and made significant contributions.
