Students from Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) breathed new life into discarded denim fabrics to create a special collection themed around “sustainability.” 

Bade Ruşen Karadeniz, a student at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Industrial Design, has developed a special device called ‘Diren’ to be used in search-and-rescue operations after disasters.

Beril Ortaç, a student in Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed collars and scarves for furry friends using denim waste. Inspired by kintsugi and sashiko techniques—traditional Japanese methods of fabric dyeing and pattern creation—Ortaç garnered significant praise for her designs. Collaborating with Turkey's leading denim brand, Lee Wrangler, as part of a special social responsibility project, Ortaç stated that she would continue to create new projects aimed at raising awareness for stray animals.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) once again collected awards at the 15th Bridal Gown Design Competition, organized as part of IF Wedding Fashion Izmir, one of Europe’s largest fashion fairs. Habibe Çakır, a graduate of IUE Department of Textile and Fashion Design and a master's student in Design Studies, won second place in the competition with her design titled ‘Oya’. Meanwhile, Eren Timoçin, who is continuing his studies in Department of Textile and Fashion Design, secured third place with his bridal gown titled ‘Dokunuş Mesajlar’. IUE students continued their streak of achievements, winning awards in the competition for the fourth consecutive year

Asst. Prof. Dr. Gözde Damla Turhan Haskara (Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Design Studies Graduate Program co-Coordinator), Filiz Özbengi Uslu (Textile and Fashion Design Research Assistant & Design Studies PhD student), Selen Çiçek (ITU, Architectural Design Computing PhD student), and Anıl Dinç Demirbilek (Industrial Design Research Assistant & Design Studies PhD student) have been honored with the “Research Innovation Award” at the XXVIII International Conference of the Ibero-American Society of Digital Graphics (SiGRADi2024), held in Barcelona from November 13-15, 2024.

The Kommagene Biennial, considered one of Turkey's largest contemporary art events and organized under the theme of ‘healing’, was hosted by Adıyaman for the second time, bringing together art enthusiasts.
