IUE’s Digital Graduation Exhibition and Fashion Show
While seniors of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), successfully complete their education journeys with distance education due to Covid-19 measures, they will exhibit their graduation exhibition and fashion show with the theme of "New - D" in digital environment. The event, which refers to the new normal period, will be presented to the audience through a joint broadcast from the social media accounts of the Faculty and its departments. The fashion show and exhibition, which will be held with the digital catalog interface, will start on Monday, 13 July at 20.00.
Following the fashion show, which will be held on virtual environment for the first time since 2003 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, graduation projects in the digital catalog consisting of designs of Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Architecture and Textile and Fashion Design students can be visited online. In the catalog, in which the exhibition content is divided into 5 sections, texts describing students' projects, 2 and 3 dimensional images, videos and animations will be included.
DIGITAL FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2003
Prof. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, stated that the Faculty has experienced a first this year and that 200 projects of the students, which have been realized by distance education and digital technology, will be introduced again through digital technologies. Noting that the graphic and identity works of the digital event, which was prepared with a great teamwork and faculty solidarity, were undertaken by Asst. Prof. Derya Irkdaş Doğu and Asst. Prof. Özgül Kılınçarslan, Prof. Yazgan stated that the Faculty's social media accounts were actively used in the preparation of exhibitions and fashion show.
DIGITAL FASHION SHOW AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL DESIGNS
Indicating that institutions providing fashion education worldwide could not perform their graduation fashion shows due to Covid-19, Prof. Bulgun said, “Our students started working on the theme of sustainability at the beginning of the semester. However, due to Covid-19, they updated their theme as the new sustainability. Students created their own approach by examining sustainability from different perspectives. As the new fashion designers of the future, they examined how they will respond or react to the 'new' situations that develop in all areas of life with the Covid-19 pandemic. This enabled students to push their limits and re-evaluate their design identity.”
Noting that the collections prepared by 12 students with the theme of “new sustainability” will be displayed on the digital podium through avatars, Prof. Bulgun stated that students developed their graduation projects under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Arzu Vuruşkan, Lecturer at Department of Textile and Fashion Design.
Prof. Bulgun said, “A clothing from each student's collection came to life on avatars using three-dimensional digital design programs. It was moved to a digital podium. Virtual fashion show gains importance in order to draw attention to the rapid development and sustainability of fashion and technology unity. 2020 Textile and Fashion Design graduates will be the new fashion designers.”
