VCD participation in Good Design

The Good Design İzmir 4, which was formed within the theme of “Cycle” this year, started on October 18, 2019, Friday. Different departments of the IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design took active roles in many Good Design 4 events. The program brought together a rich array of interviews, panels, workshops, film screenings and exhibitions. The Department of Visual Communication Design (VCD) showed great participation from both students and academic staff.
On Friday, October 18, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Arda took part in the panel called “Cycles of the City” by sharing her views on what roles we can play as designers in the sudden migration movements and transformation faced by cities. On the same day, Asst. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Mura moderated the presentation of Adele Berault's presentation titled “A Great Design Experiment: Lille Metropolis, 2020 World Design Capital”. The next day, he took parts as a speaker in “Recycle / Downcycle / Upcycle: Designing the Life Cycle of the Design Objects” panel. He shared his views on the subject from his exhibited work “The five stages of the Object”.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Rabia Özgül Kılınçarslan has conducted the “Disconnected: Sustainable System Design Workshop” along with her moderation for artist Elmas Deniz’s speech in the joint event of 16th Istanbul Biennale on Sunday, October 20.
Within the scope of the Project “Anamorphic” conducted by VCD Lecturer Nina Kertselli, 2nd-year students Balca Demirbilek, Cansu Türkoğlu, Ramazan Say and Umut Onat’s works were exhibited. The four students became the youngest participants of the Good Design Izmir 4.
On the other hand, Universities of Design and Art Graduation Projects Exhibition (UTAS) 2019 was set up with graduation projects from universities in Izmir in KültürPark Fair Hall 1. Our students Alp Yaprak, Ayşegül Ulutaş, Yiğit Yerlikaya, Gizem Alpaslan, and Baran Pirinçal who graduated in the summer of 2019 represented our department in UTAS 2019 with their works.
