VCD in İstanbul

Izmir University of Economics Visual Communication Design Department visited Istanbul between 9-11 October 2019. Within the main objective of the field trip, students have visited the TitriFikir and Zebra Design Factory agencies to observe professional life as designers. In addition to seeing the exhibition in Arter in its new building, the students had the chance to meet at SALT Beyoğlu with the project partners from the Trans-making project funded by EU H2020 in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Arda and Asst. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Mura take part as researchers.
One of the stops of the İstanbul trip was 16th Istanbul Biennale with the theme “Seventh Continent”. Students have visited the Biennale in the Pera Museum and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture. One of the works exhibited is called “Monochrome” and it belongs to our VCD part-time instructors Ozan Atalan.
Ozan Atalan's documentary video on how urban interventions to the Northern Forests in Istanbul, especially the recently built bridges and airports in Istanbul, have caused the buffaloes of the region to lose their habitats. His work is composed of the skeletons of a buffalo on a concrete platform built on top of a piece of soil.
