Renowned architects came together at Izmir University of Economics

Organized with the contributions of Kalebodur and presented by Dr. Celal Abdi Güzer "Kalebodur'la Mimarlar Konuşuyor-Kampüs” event was hosted by Department of Architecture of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design in Izmir University of Economics.
Kalebodur'la Mimarlar Konuşuyor is a long-running architectural interview series that have hosted over 75 distinguished guests from Turkey and over the world including Odile Decq, Beatriz Colomina & Mark Wigley, David Chipperfield, and Bridgette Weber. In this edition, architects Nevzat Sayın (NSMH) and Han Tümertekin (Mimarlar ve Han Tümertekin / Atelier Han Tümertekin) were Prof. Güzer's guests.
During the interview, Nevzat Sayın and Han Tümertekin answered the questions of Abdi Güzer on the disciplinary areas which have an elbow touch with schools of architecture. While Sayın stated that the architecture students are in a strange break with art, philosophy, literature and history, Han Tümertekin said that despite the many distracting features of the digital world, there is still a hand-brain coordinated architecture possible.
Nevzat Sayın graduated from Ege University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture in 1978. Since 1985 he has been working in his own architectural workshop, NSMH. Sayın is the founder member of Bilgi University, architecture graduate program. He participated in summer schools of architecture in Turkey and in the jury works of various schools. His writings and interviews have been published in architectural literature. Urgup- A Space in the Underground (1990), Gon Leather Factory 1 (1992), Gon Leather Factory 2 (1996), Tekirdag / Saray Deri (1998) received Chamber of Architects awards. He was nominated twice for the Aga Khan Architecture Awards due to the restoration of the existing and the new buildings in the village of Dikili Yahşibey.
Han Tümertekin established Mimarlar ve Han Tümertekin in 1986 in İstanbul. He has carried out projects especially Turkey, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, United Kingdom and in France. He completed her architectural studies at Istanbul Technical University. In addition to his professional studies, Mr. Tümertekin is one of the founders and executives of the Istanbul Bilgi University Graduate School of Architecture. She is a visiting fellow at the Ecole Spéciale daleArchitecture-Paris and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Having participated in many national and international juries, Tümertekin participates in international architectural events with his lectures and workshops. Also, selected projects were published as a monograph by Harvard University Press. Tümertekin won National Architecture Award in 1998 and 2000 (Turkey), the 2004 Aga Khan Award for Architecture with the. B2 House M. He has been on the jury of Aga Khan Architecture Award in 2007. He has been a Board Member of Aga Khan Architecture Awards since 2008.
C. Abdi Guzer graduated from the Department of Architecture at Middle East Technical University in 1982. He received a British Council research grant and studied on ‘Architectural Criticism’ at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Guzer received his doctoral degree from METU where he is currently leading one of the groups in the 4th year architectural design studio. He acted as the vice chair of the Department of Architecture, director of the Program on Architectural Design, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Middle East Technical University and the Chairperson of Architects’ Association 1927. Guzer has been a jury member in several architectural competitions and received many awards and mentions in national and international competitions including three first prizes. He realizes most of his projects through METU and has several completed projects including METU MATPUM Research Center, which received YEM Design Award in 2008 and Zeugma Museum, which received Turkish Presidential Award in 2012. He is the founder of CAGAW.
