BODRUM İÇMELER SHIPYARDS TECHNICAL TRIP

IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FFAD) organized a technical trip to Bodrum İçmeler Region Shipyards, Maritime Museum, and Marina under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ö. Osman Demirbaş, Asst. Prof. Dr. M. Emre Ergül, Asst. Prof. Dr. A. Can Özcan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Markus Wilsing. Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (IAED), Industrial Design (ID) and Yacht Design (YD) students and IAED Research Assistant Elif Büyükkeçeci participated in the trip. Ağanlar Shipyard, Grandi Marine and Yacht Works and Ada Yacht Works were visited. During this trip, students observed different sized sailing and motor yachts with various structures and in different stages of building process. Besides, the shipyard furniture workshops which manufacture custom-made furniture for yachts were visited. Students gathered information about building techniques and materials used in marine industry. Third year and fourth year IAED and ID students currently taking courses on marine interiors and marine product design, and planning to continue their professional career in this sector, asked questions about internship and employment opportunities to the executives of the shipyards. Yacht Design Program Graduates H. Kerem Türkmen, Bülent İ. Turan and Barışcan Özkalay, accompanied the group, and provide information about their own professional experience and answered students’ questions.
In the second day of the trip; first, a visit to Bodrum Maritime Museum was made. Students received information about manufacturing and history of the vessels special for Bodrum. After the museum visit, different sized yachts with various characteristics were studied in Bodrum Marina. Then the group departed from Bodrum to İzmir.
During the trip, partnership possibilities in the scope of university-industry cooperation were discusses with the executives of the shipyards, and prospective meetings were planned to consider and structure the issue in detail.
