IUE FACULTY OF FINE ARTS & DESIGN IN DESIGN BIENNIALE

Gökhan Mura from the Department of Visual Communication Design at IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design exhibited his work titled “Object Academy” at the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial.
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the Istanbul Design Biennial is launched with the theme "A School of Schools". The 4th Istanbul Design Biennial, which is shaped around questions about what learning means today, how it is designed and how it should be designed, presents a selection of related projects of more than 200 participants from 6 continents. Istanbul Design Biennial from covers many different areas such as design, architecture, biology, sociology, gastronomy, pedagogy, ecology, technology and economy. The exhibitions were open to public in 6 different thematic schools in 6 different exhibition venues in Istanbul.
Gökhan Mura participated in the Istanbul Design Biennial with his project titled "Object Academy" where he explores the significance of changing meanings of the displaced objects and the cultural changes in the society caused by migration through gifts brought by the Turkish diaspora in Europe to their relatives and friends and through narratives of how they were received. The project tackles the issue via kitchen appliances and food products. The project, which consists of the texts of the 4 conceptual frameworks, the objects and the audio recordings of the interviews about these objects, was exhibited in Studio-X.
After Istanbul Design Biennial “Object Academy” will also be exhibited in France and Belgium in 2019 as a part of the exhibitions that will be curated by Jan Boelen.
