Faculty of Fine Arts and Design
IZMIR WITH MARK KLETT
Between May 20th and May 24th, the department of Visual Communication Design was visited by the renowned American landscape photographer Mark Klett. A Regents Professor of Art at Arizona State University, his pioneering photographic work has focused on explorations of man’s interaction with the American landscape, and more recently on issues of time and space within photography. Following a lecture about 35 years of his photographic work, Klett gave a 4-day workshop to students from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, where they were asked to identify locations within historical images of Izmir and “rephotograph” them in their own style. The workshop culminated in an exhibition of the work produced including images created by Mark Klett himself in response to the city of Izmir. We are greatly honored to have welcomed such a distinguished photographer to our school and the students benefitted hugely from working with him.
